“As part of the armoring, the vehicle is said to have been fitted with steel and Kevlar plates, extra reinforcement of the doors and hinges, along with polycarbonate windows, replacing the original glass windows. This car also is equipped with a sunroof.”

Lol

Well, you gotta have that sunroof, so you don’t have to lower a bulletproof window to shoot out from.

Doesn't Kevlar expire?

Bubbled up windows= worthless.

If someone wants to buy it as a collector’s car, fine, but it has no practical purpose when it comes to stopping any sort of bullet.

kinda sorta. The expiration date, as I understand it, is mostly a liability release for the company.

Whenever I see a car that would be even slightly absurd as a daily driver, I think, “but how awesome would this be dropping off my kids at preschool?”  Not only would this be an easy 7 or 8 out of 10, it would be easier to convince my wife than most absurd cars. “Honey it’s literally bulletproof!”

Nixon rode in a bulletproof car, and a bullet never hit him

Checkmate, physicists.

I still don’t like the shade and now I don’t like whatever Balmoral is.

Haha true.

“Honey it s literally bulletproof!” is also something you’d have to say every time your wife looks at the gas receipts lol

If you want a basic bulletproofing it’d be quite hard since they don’t have the original casts or window... and it would cost around 30,000USD

Personally, the color does it for me. It looks somewhat similar to FCA’s F8 green, which was sadly impossible to find at dealers the last time I went shopping.

Honestly the interior on those cars looks like a complete afterthought. I said to someone else recently, “Rollers age like an avocado.” As he posted a 2015 model that could have been from 2002.

Economics b e damned, at least the materials are top grade. Chrome instead of plastic, leather instead of vinyl, wool instead of nylon, and a nice, thin steering wheel instead of a chunky race car style one that automakers seem to thing normal cars need for some reason.

Nice materials, but if I’m going hundreds of thousands on a luxury sedan I want it to be at least aesthetically pleasing inside. I swear there is a cookie cutter for that dash. Any super expensive low production cars have that same dash from 1980 til nowish.

See, that’s where our tastes diverge, because that’s exactly how I want my dash to look.

Fair enough. Just saw your post about importing. I just did it a few months ago. I b ought a 1975 BMW 1502 from Holland and had it shipped to the east coast.

If you have any questions it’s still all very fresh in my mind, haha.

That is really good to know, thanks. What was your total cost, all-in, excluding the actual purchase of the car itself? I’d be doing almost the same route, coming in through the same port.

Though, honestly, the more I get into it, the more I realize why cars that sell for £1200 in the UK turn up two months later in the US for $15,000.

About $4500 but $1300 of that was tax and tags. Also, I could have saved a ton of money and hassle by choosing a different US broker. My broker was expensive, and so terrible at communicating that I did most of what I paid them to do! All the broker did was sell me a customs bond and file paperwork. After all that I had to grease the delivery driver with $300 on top of the extra $375 I paid the broker for delivery. The driver was ready to bail on pickup day (which was already a week late) because the broker sent him to the wrong spot twice and didn’t provide the proper paperwork. I was on the phone all day thay day sorting out the broker, driver, customs peeps, and dock workers. The whole story is in my profile post by post if you want the dirty details. The lady at the dock said that what I was experiencing was common at that the brokers are all crooks.

Next time I plan to file and pickup myself. At the very least if advise you to vet the shit out a a few brokers should you choose to use one, and make sure that their office is near your port of entry. My guy was on the west coast.

It was $1500 to ship and the guys in Amsterdam were wonderful to work with.

You could definitely get it done for 3k ish if you file and pickup yourself.

Well, that part’s good to know, anyway. That seemed to be at the lower end of what I was figuring, based on what I could find on line. I’m only an hour from Philly, so I’d say definitely cut out all that mess and just go pick up in person.

I mean, the easiest thing would be to find someone in the US that already has what I want, which I have, except they are refusing to provide a price quote by email, and the last time they had the car listed online, they were asking several times what it was actually worth.  S o a personal import is probably the way to go.

Its really not hard and I enjoyed the process other than the shitty broker that I used. It’s a great story to tell and I got something really special.

I also bought the car at auction which added a little extra drama. As I had the excitement of bidding, winning, and making a deal with the seller all before I even had a clue how I was going to pay for it and  get it home.

The dealers that handle the import process for you is def the most expensive, but it’s easy.
